North talks up test credentials in Iran

Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Mohammad Javad Zarif, has asked the secretary-general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to allow him to present credentials to verify Tehran’s compliance with its pledges to prevent the acquisition of nuclear weapons. Zarif’s efforts come after months of public diplomacy aimed at convincing더킹카지노 Israel and France that Iran is serious about a deal to curb its nuclear program.

In November, Zarif met with Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in New York, where a new round of talks focused on whether the U.S. might resume negotiations, and on how the international community should respond.

In더킹카지노 Tehran, Iranian media published photos of Zarif and French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius in Geneva, Switzerland, discussing the Iranian nuclear issue in November 2011.

“The Iranian side is very confident about meeting its terms, which include natyasastra.comdismantling of its nuclear weapons program, the reduction of enriched uranium, and for nuclear energy to be a major component of the Iranian economy,” Zarif reportedly told Fabius, according to two Iranian news reports. “I also expect the IAEA to provide it with its technical results and verification credentials.”

Fabius, however, added that he hoped that he would be able to find such credentials, “but this question has to be thoroughly discussed with the IAEA and the IAEA directorate.”

The deal brokered in 2009 included restrictions on uranium enrichment in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions. The deal included limitations on the number of centrifuges Iran could use and a limit on its enrichment of heavy water (U-235). In exchange, however, Iran agreed to provide an end to its uranium enrichment programs for up to five years.

Zarif told Iran Today news that he has “always made it clear that the time for the nuclear talks has come.”
